The most exciting game of round 16 in the Liga MB took place in San Salvador. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 6th ranked Salvadorenos (7-10) to eighth ranked Santa Ana (5-10) 94-93 on Monday evening. Strangely Salvadorenos outrebounded Santa Ana 50-34 including a 18-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Santa Ana looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American Timothy Simmons (195-1992, college: DBU) fired a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. The other American import forward Sam Dorissaint (198-1994, college: B&S Buffalo) chipped in 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Santa Ana's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Colombian Michael Parra (201-1995) produced 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Santa Ana maintains eighth position with 5-10 record. Salvadorenos lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Brujos. Santa Ana are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Ahuachapan (#10) on the road in the next round. Salvadorenos will play against Independiente (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from San Salvador: San Salvador (#3) and Salvadorenos (#6). Salvadorenos were defeated at home 64-79 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Brayan Garcia (194-1998) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Victor Carattini contributed with 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Forward Marcos Menjivar (190-2004) replied with 15 points and 6 assists for Salvadorenos. Salvadorenos' coach rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San Salvador have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 13-4 record having just two points less than leader A.Lobos. Salvadorenos lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Brujos. San Salvador will play against Santa Tecla (#9) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Salvadorenos will play against Independiente and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

A.Lobos dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Santa Ana's 22 and made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Santa Ana 57-27 including a 16-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a quality performance of forward Sean Scott (190-1997, college: Pfeiffer) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists and center Marc Montavious (206-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) who added 14 points and 15 rebounds during the contest. There was no surprise in Izalco where 7th ranked Brujos (7-10) were crushed by third ranked Metapan (13-3) 117-82 on Saturday. Metapan dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Brujos' 44 and made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Metapan looked well-organized offensively handing out 37 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Brujos' players. Worth to mention a great performance of Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 6 assists (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field) and Puerto Rican forward Xavier Zambrana (193-1991) who added 27 points and 4 assists (made all of his seven free throws) during the contest. Four Metapan players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Allon Johnson (201, college: Dalton St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Isaac Maldonado (201-1997, college: ENMU) scored 21 points (perfect from downtown making all five shots). Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Metapan moved-up to second place. Loser Brujos dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. They share it with Salvadorenos. Metapan will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Brujos will play against Cojute (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Cojute (11-6) defeated on the road 9th ranked Santa Tecla (2-14) 106-94 on Sunday. Cojute looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Jeremy Agosto (177-1997) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 16 assists and forward Pablo Figueroa (186-2000) who added 22 points during the contest.
